The current version of the MA-1 and the S30 are both way cool! I even called Ralph to congratulate him on the new MA-1 chassis when I first saw photos. The MA-1 reminds me of the classic look of McIntosh gear, and thank heavens it sounds a whole lot better. Also, I've got the older MP1 chassis, with the brass face plate and knobs (Mark tells me they are not actually brass). I think it looks nifty. If you can get the brassy face plate optionally on the newest MP1 or MP3, and if you care, then do so. (If you're really nuts, I suppose you can pay a premium to have an after-market company create a "real" brass or other face plate and knobs for either pre-amp.) The only "homely" (but loveable) Atma-sphere product is the M60. However, if one is old enough to remember the days of American craftsmanship, when US products were better made than any others in the world and had an industrial or Art Deco look, then the M60 makes perfect sense and fits right in.
