Lew,Your analysis is correct and the cascoded *SN7 *should* sound as good or better than a single-stage *SL7 as a current source.
But.....
I've heard some designers say it is a bad idea to parallel triodes, regardless of how well they are matched.
Also, a cascode CCS circuit can be viewed as a feedback circuit extended further in space (and with more microphonic parts) than a single-stage version.
Thus, it is still an open question to me whether Ralph's cascode (for the purpose of increasing power supply immunity), 4-Zener CCS, whether using *SN7 or ECC99, is sonically superior to a single-triode, 3-Zener *SL7 CCS.
I suppose this is one of those questions that will never be resolved (and that makes this forum so interesting)...I can't imagine building a pair of amps with switchable CCS stages to find out.-Al
