Re: Apogee Stage and Atma-Sphere MA-1... good match?

Todd,

From what I remember, Apogee speakers are no longer with us primarily because of their legendary UNfriendly impedances. I believe the Divas were rated at 0.3 ohms!!! (You definately do not want to use your OTL amp here). In fact, Krell was, at one time, the ONLY amp that could drive them properly.

I do not believe their efficiency is that good either.

But, they are impressive speakers.

I was able to get an MA-1 working nicely with a similar, but different, Martin Logan CLSIIz, by using Paul Speltz's Zero autoformer. The IIz can range down from 4 to 1 ohm. But, this combination proved very effective and one of the most impressive sound performances I have ever heard.

If your interested, I can get you the setting I used on the Zero that provided a good match.

Hope this helps.

-Adam
