The 6080WC is electrically equivalent to other 6AS7 types, but not what you want in our amplifiers. Tube manuals warn against using domestic 6AS7s, or 6080s, in fixed bias service. Our amps are fixed bias. These tubes just aren't rugged enough to withstand the punishment of class A fixed bias operation. They "arc-over" with great regularity. The 6080s envelope is also much smaller than the 6AS7G envelope and doesn't dissipate heat all that well. The Russian 6AS7Gs, from Svetlana or Sovtek, are far more rugged and stand up in our amps very well. They simply exchange heat better and suffer from "arc-over" far less. This is a case where current production tubes are definitely superior to NOS.
