hi paul,my sources are near my listening chair, and the integrated amps are between my speakers. the tenor only has one XLR input and in any case the passive volume pot needs the gain the balabnced interconnects provide.
as i have 3 sources with balanced outputs, i thought that a high-quality switching box at my seating position would be an elegant solution. even if the tenor had 3 XLR inputs, 2 additional 23 foot interconnects would cost way more money and provide less convienience than the swiching box.
jennifer crock is designing this from scratch based on my request; so far it has dual mono switching for 3 balanced inputs on both channels, a common mute toggle, and space and provision for future passive volume controls. this is a passive device so it is not powered. she will be using her cable and only top level pieces for this unit.
the design goals are completely transparent switching with no signal degradation, cosmetics befitting a quality installation, and ease of use. as i play my share of vinyl i needed an easy mute function for cueing.
you could contact jennifer (jena labs) for details and pricing but i believe it will be in the low to mid $2000 range. i could have bought an off the shelf pro audio switcher for about $200 per channel but i wanted to have something that would not be compromised. this switching box will be replacing a $15k retail ss preamp.
regards
mike
