What is your application? Is a capacitor appropriate?
Be sure to consider the voltage rating and type. When it
is used with mains AC as in a snubber, the cap should be
rated for the application – most importantly look for the
sine symbol after the voltage rating indicating RMS.I use a few paralleled snubber rated caps to drop the voltage
to a ventilation fan so I don’t hear it below the music. Caps
in this application don’t dissipate the heat or take up
as much room as a properly sized resistor.I’ve also used film caps to drop the voltage to LED’s in simple
indicator circuits, eliminating a somewhat bulkier power supply.
