I was wondering if any ASOGers could validate something I heard today.I heard that the Centrons' are inferior to the older production (labeled RCA, TungSol etc). Richardson bought the tool and dies for this tube and started producing the Centrons, but as usual, the quality was not as good as the earlier stuff. Sounds like common sense to me.
My question is, does anyone have any experience with either vintage of this tube, or other interesting fact of folklore to share.
BTW, since the military dumped a larger surplus of Centrons, they can be had for around $15 per tube.
I can get some older ones for $40 each, or $60 each (matched sections, matched lot). Thats pretty pricey. The idea of matched sections (analyzer) is appealing, especially the way the Atma amps average the biasing.
