The MK I version of the MA-1 (both 12 and 14 tube output version, used three 12AT7s and one 12AU7 per chassis. If you want less gain, try removing the top 12AT7 in the cascode. That's the V2 position. When you do that, you'll need to add a pair of jumpers on the V2 socket. They need to go between pins 1 and 3 & 6 an 8. I use a 9 pin plug with the jumpers installed on the plug.
