George,That is to be expected. With the speakers disconnected, the external meter gets a reading of all of the current. With the speakers connected the current is split, some of the DC current passes through the speaker and most if it passes through the internal meter. The amount of current that passes though each is a function of how easily current can flow (resistance) through each path. In your case 550mA is going through the internal meter and 50mA is flowing through the speaker for a total of 600mA. This misunderstanding may be why it is sometimes thought that the internal meters are "bad". I say that they are good. My M-60 meters measure perfectly.
