Bashir,

I doubt the dust covers are the problem here - in my case they only rattled when excited by strong bass notes. You're almost certainly hearing power supply buzz from the amps - I get some of that from my M60s.

Tightening the dust covers is easy - you just play a hot-air gun, or hair drier, over them (being very careful to keep the hot air moving around so as not to melt a hole in the dust covers). The bothersome part is undressing the speakers so that you can get access to the dust-covers. You need to slide off the wooden top piece, unpick the fabric grille cloth from the velcro which secures it, roll the grille cloth down, and remove the metal grilles (front and back) - then you'll see the Mylar dust-covers, and you may find they are perfectly taut and not in need of maintenance. Before you start any of this please make sure the Quads have been unplugged from the mains for 12 hours so that any stored charges have gone.

I doubt that all this is worth doing as the newly tightened dust covers will loosen again soon. It was no big deal for me because I ran my Quads without the outer coverings (better sound but, of course, potentially lethal for kids, pets, over-inquisitive house-guests etc.) so the dust covers were always easily accessible. The fact is that Quads are pretty flimsy, need careful handling and the Atmas are a bit too lusty for them. Sub-woofer or low frequency attenuation, that's my advice.

There's a wealth of info about Quads (mostly the 57s, but there are many similarities) on Sheldon Stokes's website. Link is below.

Good luck.

George
