The 12SN7 is a nice inexpensive replacement for the 6SN7, if you can re-configure your filament supply to suit them. However, the 12SX7 is a "different animal", according to all the scuttlebutt I have been able to gather, perhaps due to differences in the way these two tube types are constructed internally. (The 12SX7 was made for mil use to run off very low DC voltages available in jeeps, etc.)
