I have had extensive Email exchanges on this subject in recent days. One aspect of ownership that might merit some thought is the history of the manufacturer. The Atma-Sphere amps have been in production for 20 years by the same company, headed by the same designer, and it is a real full time business likely to be here for years to come. The Berning amp is very clever, but is produced as a part time effort by its designer who is employed full time elsewhere. While this has no impact on either the musical or technical merits of either company or product, it might be of some importance to some buyers that the company is real and stable. I post the question....Where can you get technical support for the Berning-Audionics BA-150? This amps development cost Audionics so much, they never recovered and went under. This bipolar transistor amp has a digital based dynamic bias adjustment circuit. It was designed back inthe days of TTL and crude logic. Very expensive. There is one for sale here in Portland, and no one will touch it, regardless of the sound. In the case of the current Berning product, David, rather than a different company as in the Audionics case, is the man directly behind the product. He might be there in the future to lend support as needed, as this his his baby. I have to give him credit, the amp is clever, and very power and weight efficient. These mean nothing to me, I don't care about size and waste heat, but they are important criteria for some people. THats why solid state and hybred amps still have a market. JWWC
