Hello
Dunlavys are NOT hi-efficiecny speakers.
The published Dunlavy spec of 91 efficiency is misleading. Its hard to drive and it is very sensitive to amp choices. If you try 9 different 100+ watts solid state amps, you might find 1-2 amp that are compagtible with the Dunlavy. Also, the
Dunlavy are very sensitive to room placement and like 90-120 degree V between them and listener. The Dunlavy IV & V are modern classics and are among the best modern speakers (no experience with VI but exepect something similar). But its hard work to bring out its best . Once it is dialed in with right amp and right placement,
expect a neutralish sound with lots of clean information. Its also quite musical. The crossover is outstanding and its hard to hear the crossover points. They excel at unraveling the intent of a musical composition. With the wrong amp and wrong room placement they will sound
dead and uninvolving. However, at their best, they will NOT give you the effortless dynamics and free
flowing energy of hi-efficiency systems.
