Hi chaps
I've been using 350Hz round tractrix horns for several months now as part of a 3-way system. The horns run from 700Hz to 5kHz and use JBL 2441 compression drivers (XO is passive line level 12db).
The horns are made from turned MDF painted gloss black. They sounded great before, but recently I lined the inside of the horns with thin felt, all the way from the throat to the mouth edge. I wasn't sure at first, but after some critical (long and loud!) listening sessions, I can safely say they do sound better.
They retain the lightning speed and attack, but are even smoother. Before the felt there was a slight stridency at very high volumes. That has now gone. I can crank these things to unbelievably high levels without any sort of indication that they are starting to distort.
Man these things sound freakin awesome....
Cheers. Doug
