I'm glad you solved your problem. I too think these are marvelous speakers.
I am scratching my head though on your comments regarding beaming in the highs. I noticed that Angelo had the same comment.
I am not getting beaming here with my setup. In fact, it's just the opposite: I am quite pleased with the dispersion characteristics. That said, these are horns with natural directional features and not open baffles, but still, impressive.
Now my Oris/AER MD3 speakers beamed bigtime and was definitely a one person wide speaker. I found the effect annoying. The Orpheans in my room with my system are about a three person wide speaker. And outside of that range the sound is still quite balanced with good tone and decent stereo depth.
I had some friends over to watch a movie over the weekend using my screen and projector. We watched "Breaking and Entering" which has a really good score. I was sitting pretty far off to the side and I was enjoying the music, nice tonal colors, and the image depth a lot.
