Some of the best sound in the show. I think the midrange suffered in most rooms with anything but tiny speakers, in a better set-up (non hotel) I think the speakers would be real contenders for the elusive single driver all purpose speaker (Single driver? There is a second driver for the bass - I'm not a technical person, particularly after three days of gear hopping). The bass was extremely tight, some of the most defined and "musical" tympani I've heard - even given the limits of the room. But more to the point, with the Art Audio amp, the there was a musical presence in the room.
By way of contrast I liked the $26,000 Vandersteens because they seemed to be able to play anything effortlessly (maybe a strange way to put it?), but the sound did not have the presence of the Rethm (the single driver box trade off). There were so many speakers that had harsh highs and this obscured a lot of other virtues and effected my appreciation of the speakers. It maybe the rooms, but I tend to think that it's a taste issue as well.
