i hear ya-- i'm sure there's varying stages of 'decomposition' as it were... it was a cheap experiment, and it obviously yielded some interesting results! it DOES have me thinking what possibilities lie in newer oil caps (mind you- i DO have an oil cap on the very top end).. but i don't think i'm gonna go the ASC route just yet. i've used a couple of those with good result-- but matching them within 10% can be a bit of a trick, and the HVAC guys give you some serious guff when you ask for ALL their caps and pull out a multimeter... i have a pair of aerovoxes that were 10uF's, and one read 10.2uF, the other almost 11.. last time i just outright buy them off the shelf...anyhoo-- i'd love to try jensens or AN foils.. but good lord.. i don't want to mortgage my house.. we'll see where the experiment goes next!
