Crossover for a Karlson

I have a single Karlson with a 15" E-V Wolverine LS-15 in it. Sound good for a 50year old. However, there is a breakup somewhere around 10K or so. Those whizzer cones just don't cut it by todays standards. So I am building some DIY speakers (Dennis Murphy design MB20). I've built one pair and given them away and my wife liked them so much she wants a pair for us. With only 5.5" woofer that don't exactly have an extended bottom end but they are very good at everything else. So I plan to bring in the Karlson that her Dad made many years ago. I'm thinking of buildiing a simple 1st order cross at about 800 to 1000 hz. Does this sound too high?
The Murphy's will be driven with a stereo tube amp and the Karlson with a mono tube amp both going through a Dynaco PAT 4 pre-amp. Source CDP.
