I don't think the reply was about a modification needed to the crossover but a repair. Another factor could have been a need to have the drivers re-magnetized. That said as well one modification that is good is replacing the 806 with a mud magnet 902. The 802 would be an improvement
over the 806 as well but won't fit in the original 846a Valencia cabinet. I have owned several sets of EV's though not the empire, and was into EV before I got into Altec. I prefer the Altecs by far at this point.
