I recently had the opportunity of auditioning the Druids for a week in my home in my own system. My current speakers are the original Sonatina, which I praise and enjoy.. but I'm curious as to what else is out there. What the Druids did in the areas of immediacy and transient attack impressed me quite a bit. I also felt like they had greater inner detail and microdynamic layering(?). The Sonatina's sounded slow and dark in comparison.
Despite the above, I didn't like the overall sound of the Druids. They sounded boxy to me in a way I couldn't live with. (Never mind the godawful aesthetics that will not pass WAF.) The Sonatina's are more listenable and call less attention to themselves. I believe the Sonatina's may have a more even frequency response in my room.
All this resulted in my wondering what other speakers I could check out that will have the best of the Sonatina and the Druid without their respective flaws (or subjectively percieved flaws)
Yes, I know neither of the above are typical hi-eff speakers, but I'm looking for something that can be driven by my 7 watt 300B.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
