I like the look of the worn spines and I'm sure it was purposely done.

I think the point was to remind people of how old these recordings are and that there's a sense of nostalgia, romance and history to them. It also adds to the reality that the best recordings are the ones whose LP's get handled the most and result in a lot of wear and tear.
