The settings to which you refer are designed to turn off the video outputs, the digital audio outputs, and the unit's LED display. The conventional wisdom is that the more of these items you turn off, the better the sound. If you are using the Denon's interal DAC's, just set the unit to "All Off" and you are good to go. If you want to tailor Modes 1 and 2 to set certain of these three functions to turn off (i.e., if you are using an outboard DAC for CD and you don't want to turn off the digital audio outputs, and/or if you are watching a DVD-A and you need the video outputs to work), you can do so using the on-screen menu.
