Les Violons du Roy have recorded an album well outside their usual Baroque style with these 'new Tango' pieces. (If you enjoyed David Chesky's Area 31, this will certainly appeal to you.) Expect to be blown away by the juxtaposition of tango, jazz and classical elements which are given a spirited and virtuosso rendition by Les Violons du Roy.Furthermore, the sound quality is absolutely demonstration quality, which adds to the excitement and vitality of the music.
I found out that this album won a Juno 2007 award in the catagory of "Classical Album of the year: Solo or Chamber Ensemble." Very well deserved, and well worth your time and money if your tastes run to this unique modern fusion of classic/tango & jazz. Go on, blow the cobwebs off your musical soul!
