Well, the stock player fell into the category of "pretty good, but maybe I'll opt for something better later."The L5 mod creates more like a "pry it out of my cold dead hands" kind of reaction.
While this and that improved, the main effect was stripping away level upon level of whatever it is that keeps the minute detail of a recording from making itself apparent. In a nutshell, things sound a lot more real. Even RBCDs can sound plausibly like the master tape, if not the actual performance.
Going from L5 to L5+ shouldn't have any effect on the RBCD performance. I am trying to work a trip to greater Schaffhausen into my schedule for that surgery.
As for break in, things were still improving (in lurches) 6 months after the mod. So think what you have to look forward to.
