I wonder if this performance gets all the bases covered...it does.
The recordings come from the all-organ-concerts of Verizon Hall's new pipe organ last May. A newly commissioned piece was also performed, but it was underwhelming, and smartly was dropped for release. Latry held a 40 minute post concert recital and talk that is sadly not included either.
I'm guessing that the Saint-Saens was the only piece they original intended to release since only before it, and not before the Barber and Poulenc, did they ask people to be extra quiet since they were recording it. The Tocatta Festiva by far elicited the biggest audience response of the night. Those who dislike recordings which include the audience applause will be perturbed when they hear the shouts and cheers that followed this performance. I'm very excited to be able to own this concert.
