I say YES to more "unmastred" SACD's. Some of the best sounding CD's and SACD's I have has more or less been "unmastred". Here is an example; Supertramps "Crime of the Century" on MOFI UDI (UDCD 505,1988) sounds terrific, it's almost strange that analog tapes that has gone thru a 1987 PCM A/D converter can sound that good. But it does! Very transparent and dynamic. Steve Hoffman has confirmed that this Gold CD from MFSL is a pure flat transfer from the masters.
And knowing how good it can sounds, I'm dreaming of the whole Supertramp catalog being transferd to SACD's this way. Master tapes fed directly into the best DSD converters there is...but will it happen?...I don't think so, it's to good to be true.Sadly, most CD's and SACD's nowdays are to "overmastred".
