Re: Best-sounding jazz and pop SACD's

I find these to be very good although I have not compared them to Redbook.

In no particular order:

1) The Best Of Mighty Sam McClain (Audioquest)
(If any label makes better sounding vocals than Audioquest I have yet to hear it)

2) "Gratitude" Earth, Wind, and Fire (Sony)
In multi-channel this is the recording that I have most felt like "I'm actually there". (Actually I thought I *was* there, except this live tour was recorded on the East Coast)

3) "A Love Supreme" John Coltrane (Impulse)
There is no way that you can listen to this a not "find" Coltrane

4) "Young at Heart" Tony Williams Trio (Sony)
This was the first DSD commercial recording, ever. Brilliantly recorded and brilliantly performed. Tony Williams last release

5)"Blues in Orbit" Duke Ellington (Mobile Fidelity) (If you can find it)

I cannot add to the hundreds of accolades made on this forum about this SACD.

6)"Monty Meets Sly and Robbie" Monty Alexander (Telarc)
Easily the most "wicked" disc in my inventory, period.

7)"Kind of Blue" Miles Davis
The multi-channel version is superior, especially in the bass

8)"3+3" Isley Brother (Sony)
What can you say? In some circles this 30 year old recording is played and replayed as if its a current release. Two channel and multi-channel it is simply to die for

9) "Illuminations" McCoy Tyner (Telarc)
The musicianship of the "sideman" (they are all giants) is top tier.

10) "Ship Ahoy" O'Jay's (Sony)
This is flat out funky soul music that tells it like it its. May be a little over the top in multi-channel, so you switch to two-channel, but after a couple of minutes you switch back to MC, cheesy though it may be, because that is the way it was meant to be.
