What is blocking popping the top is the CD and stabilizer puck, which are on the shaft, which is connected to rest of the player. If you pull straight up you can probably get them off the shaft. Careful tho, cause if dont pull straight, you could stress or maybe even bend the shaft. Also, take care you dont lift beyond the slack in the wires going from the main board to the lid.
