Another first from BIS:
Ultra Extended Playing Timeis what you get when you use the superior storage capacity of the Super Audio CD in an unusual manner. As the first record label – to our knowledge – this is what we have done on BIS-SACD-1527/28, and the result is that the complete organ music by J. S. Bach – more than 20 hours of music – has been fitted onto no more than five (5!) discs!
The storage capacity of an SACD is usually divided between a Surround Sound and a stereo version. When there is no Surround version, the entire capacity can be used for the stereo content, and this has given us a playing time of more than 4 hours on a single disc. All that was needed was to convert the original recordings – referred to by critics as “one of the best complete recordings of Bach's organ music†– to high resolution SACD stereo format (DSD). And the result is that one box, no thicker than a pocket book, holds one of the greatest treasures in the history of music. Please note: Unlike so-called Hybrid SACDs, these discs do not contain a CD layer. This means that they cannot be played back on a conventional CD-player.
