Keeping in mind that I have not compared them one on one in my home system, I would say that the Yamaha has a somewhat lighter, leaner sound than the Pioneer. The Yamaha provides slightly less resolution... but the biggest differences seem to be of total impact and weight. The Pioneer just sounds more solid.... with a bit more warmth as well. I wouldn't hesitate to put the Yamaha in a second system, though. It looks nice and sounds good. Good video quality as well.
