Same symptoms, that kept getting worse. I'd heard unfavorable stories about Sony's Laredo service center, but they proved totally unfounded, in my case. My unit went from Potomac, MD to Laredo and back again in a little over two weeks. They didn't put a mark on the unit and it works perfectly. Excellent communication with Sony throughout the process.You're right in not sending the original box (they packed it beatifully for the return trip), power cord or remote. Good luck.
