Ok, there is some tape hiss on these. They were all originally analog taped recordings. But what great music and performances.George Szell on Sony has some great performances. Best sound is on the Grieg, Bizet disc. My fave is the Dvorak 7th with Carnaval and Moldau. Absolutely near the pinnacle of performance in very good to excellent sound depending on the work. The 7th is a bit dim, but the couplings are in great analog sound. The Boulez Ravel and Bartok are also excellent. Also, you must get Kind of Blue by Miles etal on Sony.
You like French? Get the Paray version of Berlioz Sym. Fantastique on Mercury. Outstanding performance and sound. Also RCA Saint Saens and Debussy.
Russian? RCA Reiner's Scheherazade is one of the very best sounding of all reissues. I remember listening to this recording in the 60's over McIntosh amps and AR3 speakers. It is even better now over the better speakers we have today.
I didn't even get into jazz, except for my mention of Kind of Blue. Analog Productions, Mobile Fidelity and Fantasy have some truly excellent reissues. Sonny Rollin's Saxaphone Colossus is a must. Chet is a must. Miles Quartet is a must. The Quintet at Massey Hall is a must. Mingus Ah Um is a must,ok, that is Sony.
Don't forget Audio Fidelity. I guess they are going out of business. Their SACDs are almost all gone, but try to get some. Great sound engineering by Steve Hoffman. Lightnin' Hopkins is great. Bob Marley is great.
Other pop? Ok, Let it Bleed by the Rolling Stones is a must. I see it is up to $40 now. Too bad. It is their best record and the SACD is primo. I guess it is out of print now, too bad. Willie Nelson Stardust? I love this record. Tony Bennet? Ditto.
Feel your wallet getting lighter? Well worth it if you love music.
