Dts on RedBk CD playback question

Forgive me for not searching,I have,but not very well.
Hi all,can someone please advise me on a Dts issue.I have burnt a Dts album to disc.A mate with a full surround setup created the disc,WinRARed it and said burn it to disc like a regular cd and play it on your DVD player.He's gone on holiday,and I can't understand why my Panasonic DVD-S49 player won't downmix to stereo properly.I don't have a multichannel system and when I play the disk,I get what seems to be fullrange on my right speaker,and less than full range on the other and there seems to be some sort of sound stage.When I try different audio settings I get stereo,but its bass light.
Is it not possible to play the disc in 2 channel stereo?
