SACD will stay a niche product for a long time.Sony is including SACD capability with the Play Station 3 which demonstrates that Sony will continue to support SACD.
The total number of new SACD players and new SACD software is near the highest levels. When I bought my 1000ES, there were only 3 players and less than 100 total SACDs.
The new HD audio formats will be very popular and will make DVD-A obsolete.
If HD audio (lossless) is included on all HD-DVD and Blue Ray discs, I may never purchase another non-HD DVD.
After an HD 5.1 or 7.1 audio master is created, I suspect that it will be very easy to create an SACD version.
The biggest shortcoming of the HD audio format (like DVD-A) is that the disc will not play in existing CD players and often requires a video monitor.
I personally look forward to the new lossless HD audio format.
I will keep my SACDS for decades even if they stop being manufactured.
