Well, some people like to speak in extremes terms, and it is just not that simple. They are the self-proclaimed golden-eared experts who live for absolutes. I agree with you, that there is as much (if not more) difference in the recording quality of SACDs as there is in player models and mod designs.I have a modded Sony 670 and a stock 222ES, and there is no doubt that the modded player is a lot better. The stock ES unit is hardly unlistenable though. As for how much money to spend, Matt Anker at SACDmods.com did mine and it was quite reasonable in my opinion for a noticable improvement. Write to him through his web site though, because he doesn't specifically list your model. Mike.
