In Reply to: Denon DVD 3910 or Marantz DV 9600? posted by shpickering@yahoo.ca on May 25, 2006 at 19:07:22:
I eval'd both the 3910 and 9600 in my home for 30 days. I eval'd both players for everything (DVD-A, SACD, DVD-video) but redbook audio (already have a Modwright tubed modded 999ES for 2 channel redbook and SACD). The 9600 wins on all audio and video categories, and in some very handily. It should; it's $800 more, has the DVDO's ABT scaler for video processing, has a much better analog section than the 3910 and does not suffer from macroblocking or classic Denon software and firmware quality issues. Build quality and overall user interface issues, however, go to the Denon. For example, the 9600 is missing obvious things (although moot for me) like remaining time for both cd and dvd media. The 3910 just looks like a more solid deck, and the mechanisms seem hardier.I bought the 9600; it was a clear case of being $800 better (and my local dealer gave me a deal). That being said, the 3910 would have been my player if I hadn't seen the 9600. it's a very good audio player (although has probelems with cd side of dualdiscs, etc.) and on my screen a very beautiful video player.
