I could be good for real HiRez if the mainstream alterantive is clearly an inferior product as is the case with the majority of music downloads at circa 128kbps.Could the market one day bifurcate into a mass market for downloads and a sizeable high-end market for single layer SACDs? That would make the value proposition for SACD much more clear for most people than it is today, and would allow digital rights management to be applied to all released recordings, benefiting from the encryption technology on the SACD on the one hand and iTunes-style DRM on the other. You could also make it such that owning the single layer SACD would provide a license to download the compressed audio to take it on the road.
