I very much enjoyed the music on this recording. It also includes both the Norfolk Rhaposody No. 1 and No. 2 classical works as well as The Running Set. This was my first shot for all these classical works. I have listened to both the 1st and 2nd symphonies in the past. The sound quality though being very good for the most part, I just couldn't quite seem to get locked into this in multichannel mode with my system as well as I could with other recordings (Telarc, BIS, Pentatone) with the sense of being there. I do want to try it in two channel and also give it another shot in MCH also. Perhaps it is the case of some MCH adjustments being necessary. Maybe I'll prefer it in two channel. I'll ask for your thoughts on this recording about this.
BTW, I'll mention that I don't recall seeing recommendations for the Chandos recordings of the Williams' symphonies amongst the top sounding SACDs. That doesn't mean they aren't very very good per se but perhaps they just cannot crack those SACDs in the upper echelon.
