I bought the Jazz SACD and the Haydn String Quartets SACD. IsoMike threw in a sampler SACD for free. I also received the discs very quickly The Haydn disc is very close up, but probably has the best string sound of any quartet that I have heard on digital media. It's closer to analogue. Lots of detail in the string sound, but a little aggresive. Turning down the volume a notch helps. Track 38 (Orchestra Test D) on IsoMike Sampler 2005A has a 1:07 minute excerpt from the "polka" section of Vltava (Moldau) from Smetana's Ma Vlast. The string sound is impressive with individualized, but blended, instruments. Digital almost never sounds like this. Kimber is on to something. Time will tell. The performance sounds like a student orchestra, OK, but not up to international standards. Some of the other excerpts are too distant (the bane of digital classical recording for me) and strident. I see real potential here. I will be supporting these issues.
