New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

Had it

Very nice player. I also owned the XA777es as well, which I found to be virtually identical in sound reproduction.

The XA9000es is the best multichannel SACD player I've ever heard/owned. Plus it has the all-important time delay feature for your 5.1 SACDs. Redbook playback is very respectable too.

It's only shortcoming was on stereo SACDs compared to Sony SCD-1. XA9000ES sounded thinner, and more mechanical in vocal range. Not noticable by itself, but obvious in a head to head with a better player.

Beware of potential transport failures with this model. The Sony mechanisms are known for dropouts and other failures. If I had to do it again, I'd get a new Pio 59avi/79avi for under $1K and put $1K worth of mods into it. You'd have a universal player and would probably sound better than the Sony to boot.
