and I realize that you appreciate that sound quality is not "reason for being" for this music. Some of the recordings go back to 1951 (mono, of course). But any one with even a modicum of interest in either Sam Cooke or the history of soul/pop in America should not/must not be deterred by the uneven (some tracks from the 60s sound quite good) sound quality. There is so much history here both in the music and the incredible accompanying booklet. Maybe some knew but I didn't know that Lou Rawls was the incredible bass singing with Cooke in "Bring It On Home To Me", one of the most soulful songs of all time!
