I have a stereo SACD player, the Sony 9000ES. So I can't listen to the 5.1 layer.I did not listen to pure 2 channel however, I allowed my Sunfire pre-pro to send a small signal to the rears.
The SACD layer has greater dynamic range. The louds are louder. The quiet parts are quieter. It adds life to the sound. In addition, everything is better defined. The CD layer sounds clean, but everything is softer. And with some instuments, you just hear the primary sound, and the higher frequency harmonics seem to be missing. With the SACD layer, the harmonics are more noticable.
