I'm already on my second SCD-XA9000ES player since this January. The first one skipped on red book straight out of the box and had a few other strange quirks. My dealer returned it to Sony and got me a new unit. This one works fine on red book but it fails to recognize a few of my SACDs on the first attempt. Stopping it and reloading and restarting has worked every time so far but it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in the reliability of this unit. It works well enough to not bother me now so I'm keeping an eye on it to see what happens. If it gets worse, it'll go back for service but I hate waiting with no player while this happens.Like you, I am not looking forward to a 40 lb. paperweight when the warranty runs out.
