I believe that theaters one day will be digital.I doubt that 1080p is good enough resolution for a 30+ foot screen.
480P hit its limit at about a 3 foot screen (36").
My guess is that the digial movie projector will be 2160p and not one the current generation of Blu Ray or HD-DVD.
