Re: Ayre C-5xe

I bought my C5-xe about 7 months ago -- I was not compulsive about speeding up the break-in process. Given that my weekly listening times averaged about 15 hours per week, and that I felt the machine to be nearing complete break in about 3-4 months, this would translate into about 200 hours by my estimate. Actually though there is a fairly steep curve up to about 100 hours, so you'll actually hear a more significant change during this period. After about 200-300 hours, it will become very difficult to discern any change assuming everything else in your system stays the same. By the way, you will not be disappointed at all by the C5-xe straight out of the box. I had previously a CX-7 (not e) and the improvement was clear at first listen! Maybe a newer CX-7e would be closer...but make no mistake about it, the C5-xe is truly a fantastic machine. To date I've purchased relatively few hi-rez discs (mainly because I haven't found much that I like in these formats), but the Redbook CD playback itself is so incredible that for me the C5-xe is worth the investment, even if I never buy another hi-rez disc!
