It may come down to what you and I consider noisy. Yes, you can hear the faint sound of the disc beginning to load and spin. You can even hear a faint beep (similar to a computer transport) during the loading and reading process. None of this bothers me in the least. Once you start the CD or SACD playing, you can hear the again FAINT whirring of the spinning disc inside the player but only if you have the system volume all the way off and are within a few inches of the player. Once you bring the volume up, there is now way I could hear any of that "noise".I've had this player for about 6 weeks now and it has never failed to load and play any CD or SACD (hybrid and otherwise) that I have put into it. Not a single skip or other operational anomoly. I really enjoy this player through the tube outputs. I hope I get lots of years of use from it. BTW, I also have a 220 v version with the step up transformer.
