Actually, we've been attending a few concerts as part of the Sydney Festival and in March hopefully we'll be seeing Pat Metheny at the Perth Festival.Don't get this wrong, but my spouse and I have remarked that we seem to get much better sound at home than at live venues, particularly for pop and jazz. Those pro amps and speakers all seem to have high distortion. At the hard reflections at some jazz venues (particularly the Basement at Sydney) really muddies the sound.
Also, they play the music way too loud. I always carry a pair of musicians earplugs, and I had to put them on yesterday to listen to Elvis Costello and Steve Nieve.
For classical music, nothing beats live unamplified music IMHO. However, I think the noise floor is much lower at home, I struggle to hear subtleties in a live performance, due to audience noise and sometimes bad seating.
