New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

I now see why people are getting excited over the CARY 306/SACD.

Out of the box this thing is gorgeous. It is silver on all sides and has amazing feel and is definite eye candy. It's beauty is in it's simplicity. It sports the cheezy plastic remote but this is no big deal as it probably keeps the price down a bit. I can live with that.

After a short listening session, out of the box, I can understand the excitement. So far this SACD/CD/HDCD player simply puts more soul into the music. It adds depth to the instruments and singers with more air around them in addition to improved clarity. Low end is quite good. There is a wonderful cohesiveness of the musicians and their instruments I have not experienced before to this degree. A bit of upper mid range glare/edginess is present but I suspect this will improve with burn in as will other aspects of this player. These observations seem to be consistent for both SACD and Redbook.

So, I'll get back after about 200 hours of burn in. Oh, by the way, I am comparing this unit to my stock Sony SCD777ES and eventually to my analog rig. The early, and perhaps premature conclusion is the CARY outshines the stock SONY but more on this after additional time is spent with the CARY.

Disclaimer:
Dennis Had is a friend of mine. However, please realize that I have been using a SONY digital front end so I am not partial to CARY equipment unless it delivers the goods. The 306/SACD player has a great start in that direction.
