It was the album released the previous year that caused my confusion. "Jazz Samba" Stan Getz/Charlie Byrd which contained the big hit Desafinado. This album was recorded at Pierce Hall, All Souls Unitarian Church (16th & Harvard St N.W.) - given their rich cultural background this makes sense. Just as important, Charlie Byrd resided and ran a club here in D.C. during that time.
Speaking of Byrd, from what I've come to understand, he is as much responsible for bringing Bosa Nova to the states as anyone. If nothing else its safe to say he got Getz involved.
