Re: Appreciate the detailed critique

I do like MTT's "Resurrection". Although, I do think that Blomstedt's M2 is every bit as good. But I do like the Chailly/Concertgebouw M3 much, MUCH more than MTT's S.F. one. I think that's a fabulous M3 on SACD. In fact, I like MTT's earlier LSO third more than his S.F. one. It has Janet Baker, for one thing. It's also not as dragged-out.

The Chailly 8th on DVD-A is quite good. I do have a DVD-A player. I like that better than the recent Nagano 8th on SACD. The Nagano 8th has a great Part 1, but I just feel that the tension sags too much in some sections of Part II. The childrens chorus also sounds waaaayy too small. In addition, Nagano goes very slow for much of Part 2 (great detail), but then rushes the very ending of it. I hate that.

I like the new Fischer M6 far more than MTT's S.F. M6. The inner movements are just waaay too slow on MTT's. His scherzo isn't frightening in the slightest bit, and Mahler did not write an Adagio for that symphony - it's a moderate Andante (Andante Moderato).

I also like the new Chailly 9th more than the MTT one, although they're both very similar. Either one will do. Anyway, I've got to run, and I'll write more stuff later. I do feel that MTT's M1 and M4 are a complete rip-off in terms of relative pricing. I'm not a real huge of that cycle in general.
